Luna Nera

Luna Nera is an imaginative timepiece from luxury Swiss brand Cabestan renowned for making ultra-exclusive watches that stand out due to their mechanical and technical virtuosity. The Luna Nera makes use of vertical capstan wheels, fusée-and-chain, with a sumptuous moon phase in 3-dimensions.

By this additional complication, this mechanical exclusive creation highlights the potential of the brand. The sapphire crystal in giant screen represents a large window facing the sky, providing a direct view of the mechanism of the watch and more particularly the 3D moon, as do astronomers from their observatories.

This exceptional piece is composed of a manually wound movement: caliber CAB EC 102L, with 46 rubies. The mechanism indicates the hours, minutes, seconds and power reserve by drums, one characteristic of this collection. The time is semi-jumping for easier reading, and the moon phase, meanwhile, is at the center of the movement and is represented by a sphere of 7.40 mm diameter.

The torque is transmitted from the drum barrel to the fuse via a chain. This concept allows a constant torque transmission throughout the power reserve (72 hours), ensuring greater accuracy in the measurement of time.

A total of 939 components fully assembled and regulated by hand were used in the making of this tourbillon timepiece. The watch has a vertical system of wheels in gold or nickel-plated bronze, rhodium-plated bottom plate, bridges, and pinions. There is a stainless steel chain measuring 160 mm long composed of 235 links and 156 rivets all assembled manually. The watch is produced in a limited run of 135 units.

At the heart of the Cabestan brand is Eric Coudray, its master watchmaker who is the spirit of the brand. A genius at work behind the scene and one of the most respected and admired watchmakers in the Swiss watch industry. A specialist in the world of micro-mechanics, Eric Coudray seeks perfection both in the conception and the execution of his timepieces.
