The F4 Phantoms were the most state-of-the-art jet planes in the 1960s, also chosen by the legendary Top Gun Fighter Weapons School for training the best pilots in the US Air Force. A school of life that to this day continues to shape brave men who challenge the rules and take risks. On board, the F4s were fitted with the Waltham Type-A13a aeronautical clocks, engineered to serve extraordinary pilots at best, in extreme conditions.
The new Waltham Elapsed Time Chronograph reinterprets the main innovative functions of its predecessor, enhanced by distinctive time features and sub-dials, in an elegant and contemporary angular design that encompasses high-tech, superior quality components.
The ETC is powered by the caliber W.DB-003 Dubois-Dépraz 2079 automatic movement. The edgy aesthetic and technological features stand out immediately. The central chronograph functions feature a central second hand, and 60-minute Elapsed Time indicator. At 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock mark the positions of the small seconds sub-dial and the 24-hour Night & Day sub-dial: features that are particularly welcomed by Air Force pilots, who were the inspiration for the wrist watches, as well as those who challenge time in their daily lives, continuously setting new goals for themselves.
The WALTHAM ETC, like the other models in the Aero Naval Collection, boasts an original case in Titanium G5 that seems to be set in an instrument panel for the wrist: a concept designed to be reminiscent of the glorious past of the aeronautical instrument it was inspired by. The striking multi-level dial, embellished with a characteristic embossed W pattern, gives it depth and perspective, while the applied indexes and the hands are coated with Super-LumiNova®, for maximum readability in all-lighting conditions. The bezel is in ceramic. The sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective treatment. The modern watchstrap is in genuine vulcanized rubber and features a sophisticated originally designed deployant clasp in Titanium G2. Always elegant, and perfect for any occasion thanks to the combination of design and performance, the new WALTHAM ETC is also water resistant up to 300 meters.
