Since its beginning, Ernest Borel has set itself apart by creating unique watches for women. Their Danaus collection, unveiled at Baselworld 2016, is a perfect illustration of this glorious past. In itself, this timepiece affirms the standing of the Swiss watchmaker in the world of women’s watches, whilst at the same time injecting an extra touch of soul that sets it apart.
This is undoubtedly a superlative women’s watch with a diamond encrusted bezel, the house is at the same time using this new timepiece to celebrate femininity, beauty and utter sophistication. Featuring a Swiss quartz movement, this piece combines hour, minute and second functions, but its crowning glory is a rose gold PVD case having a bezel set with as many as 52 diamonds and a dial adorned with mother-of-pearl containing a further 12 diamonds. Water-resistant to 50 meters, it is coupled with a strap in beige leather and a folding clasp.
Enhanced by simple and distinguished lines, the Danaus collection also suggests diverse potent symbols, sure to be appreciated by its wearers. Although the iridescent material – mother-of-pearl – which adorns its dial is reminiscent of femininity and gentleness, in many belief systems it also conveys immortality, love and the perfection of one’s beloved. The sacred lotus flower inscribed on its dial symbolizes, among other things, eternity, purity, elegance and vitality: all virtues extolled down the millennia by peoples all over the world.
Ernest Borel was founded in 1856 in Neuchâtel by Jules Borel and Paul Courvoisier. Ernest, the son of Jules Borel, took charge of the business in 1894 and gave it his name. He was its director for almost four decades before his son Jean-Louis succeeded him in 1936.
Ernest Borel developed rapidly from 1859 onwards, and contacts were established in numerous countries across Europe, South America and the United States. The company then expanded into Asia, where Japan, China and India became its main markets. In 1959, Ernest Borel was present in more than 70 markets over five continents. In 2016, the brand celebrates its 160th anniversary.
