HOUR ANGLE WATCH

In 1927, Charles Lindbergh made history as the first person to complete a non-stop solo transatlantic flight – timed by Longines in its capacity as official supplier to the International Aeronautical Federation. Shortly after, he devised an hour angle watch in collaboration with the Swiss watch brand that could be used to precisely calculate longitude during long-distance flights. It too went down in legend. Now Longines is reissuing this Hour Angle Watch as a limited series of 90 to mark the 90th anniversary of Lindbergh’s exploit.

Equipped with a rotating bezel for correcting the equation of time, and a mobile central dial to set the exact second, this timepiece also indicates the hour angle in degrees and minutes. The titanium case is exactly the same size as the original, at an imposing 47.5 mm in diameter, for easy handling even when wearing gloves.

The watch features an automatic mechanical movement with a 42-hour power reserve. The watch functions include hours, minutes, seconds, longitude (in degrees and minutes), seconds synchronized to a radio-transmitted signal (by the mobile central dial) correction of the equation of time (by the rotating bezel).

The titanium case measures 47.5 mm in diameter and is available in a black PVD steel bezel, steel boule crown. A multi-layer anti-reflective sapphire crystal covers the watch which is water-resistant to 30 meters.

The dial is silver-toned with circular-brushed finish and a galvanic black central dial. The degrees are painted in black Arabic numerals while the watch hands are rhodium-plated Breguet hands. The watch is fitted with a brown calfskin leather strap with buckle and extension.
