Big Bubble is watching you. Luxury Swiss watchmaker Corum revisits the shape of its acclaimed Bubble with a fresh pair of eyes – literally, taking it to new, Big dimensions. The new watch is the result of a partnership between the La Chaux-de-Fonds watch brand and DJ and composer Matteo Ceccarini. Presented as a limited edition of 88 pieces, this Bubble is striking thanks to its intense, piercing oceanic gaze.
Enhanced by 3D technology and the watch’s famous domed sapphire crystal, this memorable eye leaves a lasting impression on a dial free from numerals. For the artist, the eye is much more than an artistic creation: “Anima means ‘soul’ and it is said that the eyes are the mirror of the soul.”
The eye has been seen as a protective symbol and used as a kind of lucky charm since ancient times. The watch diameter measures a macho 52 mm and is 20.20 mm thick and made of titanium grade 5. The watch front is covered with a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. A screwed in open back cover in titanium grade 5 with glare proof sapphire crystal covers the case back and the watch is water resistant to 100 meters.
Matteo Ceccarini Matteo Ceccarini is an Italian DJ, composer and producer. In 1993, he launched his career at the age of 21 by performing in famous clubs in Milan and Paris, as well as Bali. He was then discovered by designer Gianfranco Ferré, who introduced him to the fashion world.
Through music that combines ambient, electro, classic contemporary and minimalist influences, he composes pieces for the biggest luxury brands for their fashion shows and parties. Given his love for Asia, Matteo spent several years living there, and in India in particular in order to soak up the traditional holy music that he uses for his compositions. In the same vein, he composed music in 1997 for ‘Zanskar and Tibet’ – Richard Gere’s personal exhibition of photos of Tibet.
By breaking with the codes of luxury watchmaking, Corum has made Bubble a unique model that has become a legend since the very first edition in the 2000s. The brand has teamed up with a number of artists and given them carte blanche to reinterpret the piece and create their very own edition. Acknowledged both for the aesthetic appeal of its models and for its technical excellence, Corum is proud to contribute to perpetuating the time-honored values and expertise of Fine Watchmaking. Since 1955, Corum has adopted creativity and boldness as its guiding principles. It is pursuing the path traced by the founders, more loyal than ever to the iconic collections, while enriching them with a powerful modern touch bearing the hallmark of innovation and technical breakthroughs.
